About Us

Tracking New Zealand's move to licensed online casinos.

NZOnlineCasinos tracks one subject closely: how online casino gambling works for people in New Zealand, and how that is changing under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026. The site is published by NZOnlineCasinos Ltd and written by the NZOnlineCasinos Editorial Team.

The short version

  • Focus: New Zealand online casino law, licensing and player protection.
  • Regulator we follow: the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).
  • What we list: only operators permitted to serve New Zealanders under the new licensing regime.
  • What we never list: unlicensed operators.
  • Who writes: the NZOnlineCasinos Editorial Team, collectively.

Why we started

For years, information about online casinos in New Zealand came mostly from offshore marketing. It rarely mentioned that the Gambling Act 2003 gave New Zealanders no local regulator for online casinos, or that players had nowhere to turn when something went wrong. The arrival of a licensed market changes that, and players need clear information about it: which sites are licensed, what protections they must offer, what the timeline is and what happens to offshore sites.

That is the gap we fill. We explain the rules in plain New Zealand English, track the dates, and compare licensed operators on the things that matter to players.

Our sources

We work from primary material wherever possible: the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 and its regulations, DIA publications, Inland Revenue material on gambling duty, and information from the Gambling Helpline and other support services. When a figure cannot be traced to a reliable source, we leave it out. We do not publish invented statistics, testimonials or “hands-on” test results.

Independence

NZOnlineCasinos Ltd is not owned by, or part of, any gambling operator. We may earn commission from licensed operators listed on the site, and that is explained in full on our advertiser disclosure. Commercial arrangements do not influence what we write about the law, and they cannot buy a listing for an unlicensed site. Our assessment method is set out in our editorial policy.

Our approach to gambling harm

Online casino games carry a real risk of harm. We say so plainly, explain the house edge on every game we cover, and point readers to the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655 throughout the site. We do not present gambling as a way to make money, and we do not publish anything aimed at people under 18.

Keeping pages current

New Zealand’s regime is being phased in through 2026 and into 2027. We review our core pages when DIA publishes new information, when key dates pass, and when we receive correction requests from readers.
